ISO 50001 Energy Management System

The ISO 50001:2011 standard provides significant benefits for public institutions, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises across manufacturing and service sectors. Unlike other standards, these benefits are distinctly reflected in tangible financial returns. Moreover, the returns from the Energy Management System are faster compared to other standards. For example, the return and benefits of a Quality Management System implemented in a company typically take one year or longer, and financial benefits are not realized before this period. However, efforts in the Energy Management System focus directly on monitoring and reducing the company's energy consumption, resulting in faster returns that are often visible in the next energy bill. (The amount of return varies entirely based on the changes made in the company's energy usage, ranging from 10-15% in some companies to 3-5% in others.)

Efficiency audits are conducted. Two types of audits can be performed in organizations.

Framework Audit (Preliminary Energy Efficiency Audit): Similar to a performance test, its aim is to determine the overall energy scales of the business and identify various guiding criteria. The result should yield certain new targets.

Intensive Audit (Detailed Energy Efficiency Audit): This involves examining and measuring all energy flows within the organization, developing energy efficiency improvement projects, conducting technical and financial analyses, and providing a roadmap for the business.
